Easton,
We had such a fun day today! I had a sink full of dishes to do so I cranked up the music on the Kid Tunes station and put you in your exersaucer in the doorway to the kitchen where you could see me. I did the dishes and you danced by bouncing up and down on your chubby little legs to the music. I think your favorite song of the day was Feliz Navidad, although why they were playing that in June I'll never know.
You've been eating "mama-made" baby food since this weekend and you seem to like it just as much if not better than the store bought stuff. That sure makes me happy because I worked all weekend making it for you! :) At lunch today, you tried avacado for the first time. You insisted on feeding yourself and by the end of lunch you and I were both speckled green. It's fun watching you try things for yourself.
You are adamant that we not help you as you learn to feed yourself with a spoon. You get very frustrated because right now most of your food ends up falling off the spoon before it gets to your mouth but you are getting the hang of it and are doing better every day. You really like Cheerios and fruit puffs but get annoyed when they stick to your hands and don't actually get into your mouth. I think you'd much rather eat them when mama or daddy feeds them to you...you get them in your mouth quicker that way.
You are crawling now but only briefly. You get a little impatient and tired after trying to crawl and you'd much rather roll around to get where you need to go. After lunch, we played in the wading pool and I gave you a bath there too. You sure didn't want to get out but within 5 minutes after I laid you down in your crib you were fast asleep.
Sometimes when you're sleeping I have to go in and just look at you. You look so sweet sleeping with your face smushed up in the corner of your crib. You aren't able to sleep unless you're right up against the bars of your crib and usually have to have your little face smushed up against your bumper pad. How can you sleep like that?!
You're talking a lot more lately. Mostly "uh-buh" and "buh-buh-buh". I wonder if you're trying to say "bottle" but you say it all the time so I'm not sure. We're working on teaching you to sign. We're having to learn it too so it's new for all of us. Daddy is really good at signing "eat" and "more" and we use them with you a lot. Tonight you might have tried to sign "eat" to us. But then again you might have just thought your fingers looked yummy.
I wish I could stop time and have you be my sunny, funny little sweetie boy forever. You are growing up so fast! But no matter how old you get, little monkey, always remember your mama loves you and I am so blessed to be here with you!
Love,
Mama

Oh man, I just totally yelled at Jason for trying to help me. I was having trouble with a project so I asked for his help. I guess I expect him to just understand what I want but apparently he didn't. He made a suggestion about the project and I totally yelled at him that he should just do what I want and let me worry about how it turns out. Crap. I hate when I do that kind of stuff. He was only trying to help because I asked him to and now he feels like I was blaming him for the project not turning out how I wanted it to. Why can't I just be more patient? Patience never has been my strong suit but now that I'm trying (with my doctor's approval) to slowly taper off of the Zoloft, my patience is at an all time low. How do I determine whether or not it's just a side effect of coming off of the meds or if my being really iritable and snappy is an indication that I should stay on them? I really dislike taking them and my doctor encouraged me to slowly decrease my dosage so that I could stop taking them but if I'm gonna keep acting like this then I'd rather keep taking it. Plus, the last few weeks I have been having horrible nightmares and very vivid dreams. I wake up feeling exhausted which probably doesn't help with the crabbiness. I keep telling myself that all these yucky side effects will diminish and gradually go away altogether as my body gets used to being off of the medication but I just don't know. This sucks. Today was going so well until I started working on this project. Now I feel like a total jerk and am more confused than ever about whether or not going off these meds is a good idea or not. Guess I'll wait and see and if it gets too bad then I can always start taking it again. I've apologized to Jason about snapping at him but it doesn't undo it. Sigh. Man, I feel awful! And today was going so great before that! Guess I'll just take a bath and go to bed. Maybe things will be better tomorrow.
I was a busy little bee this weekend. I spent two whole days in the kitchen! I decided to try my hand at making baby food. I love the idea of making it myself. Plus, it will save us a TON of money! I spent about $30 for all the ingredients and I'm not sure but I think I have somewhere between 1-2 month's worth of baby food made. If I were to buy it all, that $30 would only buy about 12-14 days worth of the jarred stuff. Check out my freezer:
Those ice cube trays are filled with individual servings of baby food too. I made green beans, carrots, peas, peaches, pears, apple/plum, peach/yogurt, raspberry/apple/blueberry (my favorite!), yogurt/mixed berry. I also have bananas, applesauce, avacados and sweet potatoes that I'll make as needed for him. Those kinds of things don't usually freeze too well and are easy to make quickly so it shouldn't be a problem to make them as I go I think. I am so proud of all my hard work! It really wasn't THAT hard. I would have made it all in one day no problem except I didn't have enough containers to freeze it in. On the 2nd day, I just popped the frozen food out of the containers and stored them in freezer bags so I could wash and reuse the ice trays and containers.
Aside from the baby food making extravaganza, I also made a Weight Watchers Chicago style roasted red pepper and ham pizza, a plum tart, blackberry breakfast bars, and all the sides (mashed potatoes, corn, broccoli with roasted red peppers) to go with the chicken Jason made on the grill last night. Whew! I'm tired just thinking about all that cooking. And don't even get me started counting how many loads of dishes I did. It's a good thing we have leftovers to eat for dinner tonight because this mama needs a break from the kitchen! :) I think when J gets home from work we'll eat leftovers and watch a movie.
But right now, I hear my little sweetie boy waking up so that means lunch for him and then we'll hit the pool for a bit before his nap time. Man, I love my life! Now if only I could meet some friends here that have kids too. Or we could move back to OK so I could be around all my friends and family with kiddos. Words cannot express sometimes how much I wish we lived closer. I keep praying J will get transferred back to Muskogee but so far no go. Guess I'll just try to be patient because good things come to those who wait, right?

Easton was laughing at Jason tonight. It was so funny! All Jason was doing was saying "Pssst!" and Easton would crack up. It went on for about 5-6 minutes straight until Easton laughed so hard he spit up. Luckily I was done recording before that happened. :)
My prize from Now What Baby came a couple days ago. I've already worn this pretty little necklace from Gami Works two days in a row. I love it! I'm probably going to get a few for Christmas presents. They are priced so reasonably and are so cute!
Well, Teresa (Jason's mom) and Kyle just left. We had such a fun time while they were here! The house seems so empty and quiet now without them here. But I'm sure we wore them out with all the running around we did. Sunday we all went to Harper's Ferry. That was a really fun trip. We got to see Storer College
About Storer College: (info found at http://www.jrclifford.org/Storer%20College.htm)
As the first school in WV for black students teaching beyond the most basic subjects, Storer College was ambitious and notable from the beginning. The Founders of Storer discovered the desperate need for African-American educators after years of mission work during the Civil War. In an interview for the film West Virginia, Shepherd University Historian John Stealey explained, “As they dealt with relief, as they dealt with the refugee situation, as they dealt with education, the Free Will Baptists soon realized that the problem was too large to deal with. Their solution was to create a normal school to teach blacks to teach blacks.”
Storer became a refuge for students who would go on to achieve what was previously unattainable for the black community. J.R. Clifford, class of 1875, was trained to teach at Storer. “Many prominent black West Virginia families started as teachers in these schools,” says Stealey.
Nathan Brackett, leader of the Free Will Baptists, was the catalyst for Storer’s foundation. He had strong roots in the Shenandoah Valley. “The Free Will Baptists came to Harper’s Ferry because of one man: Nathan Cook Brackett,” says Stealey. Brackett met with John Storer, who believed in his ideas and had the means to bring them to fruition. Working with members of his congregation, Brackett was able to raise $10,000 to match Storer’s promised seed money.
On October 2, 1867 the school held its first classes. Because Storer was the only school of its kind in an area with a large black community, the college’s attendance multiplied. Storer’s popularity swelled under great pressure from the surrounding community. Stealey elaborates, “It must be understood that many of the localities in West Virginia opposed the establishment of education for blacks and or building buildings for blacks.” In the school’s first years, students and faculty were armed and accompanied at all times to defend themselves from angry civilians. The Baptists’ desires and perseverance fostered Storer’s mission to instill education, positive character traits, and religion. A catalog from 1869 lists basic courses such as reading, history, and arithmetic, but by the early 19th Century Storer offered college preparatory classes, and four-year degree programs. The school added an industrial program for skilled laborers and built dormitories for its students. In 1906, Storer hosted the famous Niagara Movement conference.
Even though Storer’s infrastructure grew and their curriculum expanded, the Free Will Baptists persisted with their original mission. The school remained a vital force in Harper’s Ferry, until it lost funding in 1954 after Brown v. Board of Education was decided.
It was pretty amazing to get to see that. It's rarely open to the general public so it was a privelege to get to see it.
On Monday, Jason had to work but we met him for lunch at Backseat Bar and Grill. It's like a 50's style diner and the food is amazing and the people are always very friendly. Plus it's right around the corner from Jason's work so we love meeting him there for lunch. After lunch, we headed downtown to old town Winchester. We walked and window-shopped and also stopped in George Washington's office museum for a tour.
Tuesday, we shopped. We found some great deals at Kohl's. Lots of clothes on clearance. I think I ended up getting about $300 worth of clothes for $50. Shirts and pants for kids were $1 and $2 so we stocked up.
Yesterday, Jason was off work so we all loaded up the car and went to Baltimore. We took Easton to the National Aquarium to see all the fish and animals there. It was neat seeing his reaction to all the people and animals we saw. Then we had dinner at the Big Kahuna Cantina on the Inner Harbor. The food was good and the portions were HUGE! Plus we all got coupons for free meals if we give them our email address. YAY! Free is always good. Especially when it's an entire dinner for free! Maybe we'll go back soon and take Easton to the Baltimore Zoo. He may be too little for that just yet but we'll see.
Anyway, if you've emailed me in the last week or so and I haven't responded yet...I'm not ignoring you, I promise! I'll get back to you ASAP but unfortunately I've already spent WAY too much time on this computer today so it may be tomorrow or this weekend before I can reply. Thanks for your patience! :) Talk to you soon, I hope!
Finally! Videos! It takes FOREVER to get them here. First I have to upload them to my computer from the camera, then upload from my camera to YouTube and finally from YouTube to blogger. What a hassle! But it's finally done and here they are.

OK, I know I promised videos but haven't uploaded them yet. Cut me some slack folks! I've been having issues w/the downloading. Err...uploading or whatever. I finally gave up on getting the ones from my camcorder on here and decided to post videos I took w/my still camera. Then I proceeded to take about 10 videos (ok more like 6 or 7) of my little munchkin and still haven't gotten around to uploading. Maybe tomorrow? One can hope. But don't hold me to that. I've got company and we may go shopping tomorrow. Easton's Nanny and Papa are here from OK and we've been having a pretty good time. Today we went to Old Town Winchester and walked around and also stopped into the Winchester's Office Museum and checked it out. It was pretty interesting. I've walked by there a bizillion times and never gone in so I'm glad I finally had a chance to check it out. Tomorrow we may go to Winchester and get little man some size 12 month clothes. He's almost outgrown his 6-9 month clothes now so we're planning on hitting the sales some time this week to get him some bigger stuff for this summer. So I may or may not have a chance to get those videos uploaded tomorrow but I will try. :)

Here are some of my favorite bread machine recipes. I shared these recipes with my mom and thought I'd also put them here in case anyone else is interested. I had to limit myself to making only 1 loaf a week because I was making a TON of bread and getting quite "doughy".
If you try any of these recipes, I'd love to hear how they turned out for you. Enjoy!

1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp yeast
3/4 cup raisins
Place ingredients into the bread pan in the order listed, exept for raisins. Bake using the Sweet Bread cycle. Add raisins about 30 minutes after starting (mine has a mix-in beep reminder...handy!).
Blueberry-Walnut Bread 1.5 lb loaf
1/3 cup soft margarine
1/2 cup milk
2 whole large eggs
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp blueberries, fresh or drained from can
1/3 cup walnuts
Spray pan w/cooking spray. Premix all ingredients in a large bowl. Add to bread machine pan. Bake using the Quick Bread/Cake cycle. Let cool completely before attempting to remove from pan.
Pizza Dough (can be used to make homemade breadsticks or calzones too)
1 cup plus 2 Tbsp water

Remove and top with sauce and favorite toppings. Bake an additional 8-10 min or until golden brown.
Ooh, my first ever Works-For-Me-Wednesday contribution!
Know what works for me? I was having a hard time remembering to pre-treat Easton's yucky baby-food covered bibs before putting them in the laundry. One day I made up a dishpan full of water and added a cupful of Dreft. Now when he's done with a bib I just drop it into the tub (which lives on top of my dryer) and don't have to worry about stains any more! When I've got a full load of baby laundry to do I just dump the contents of the pan into the washer along with the rest of the clothes, shut the lid and I'm done! That really works for me! For more WFMW tips, click on the WFMW banner above.
I won! I wrote that previous post before I checked my email today and imagine my surprise when I opened an email from Now What Baby and found that I won one of their giveaways! I won a beautiful necklace from Gami Works. Pictures of my prize when I get it. Woohoo! Mama's got a new necklace and found a cool website too! YAY!
Check out the beautiful jewelry here:Gami Works. And the prices are SO great! Most pieces are under $20 which makes this mama really happy!
You know another cool thing about the Prizey website that I didn't mention in that previous post? The amazing blogs and websites behind the giveaways. I have found some new favorites just by being referred by Prizey. Some of my new favorite blogs and sites:
Now What Baby Check out their product reviews. Great stuff!
Another one of my favorite places to visit isRocks in My Dryer. Check out the Works For Me Wednesday (WFMW) posts for TONS of great tips, recipes, helpful hints. Love this one!
I also love Money Saving Mom. The Crafty family is ALWAYS on a tight budget so any hints about ways to cut costs or save money are GREATLY appreciated!
So go check out these sites! And let me know what you think. :)

Check back soon for videos. I'm working all day today trying to get videos uploaded to my computer, then to YouTube and finally to my blog. Wish I knew an easier way to do this! It takes forever!
I never promised you an herb garden...
Pictures of the herbs growing on my deck.
Basil
Flat-leaf parsley
Mint
Chives. Barely up through the soil but they're coming along.
I've also got cilantro, rosemary and lavender but I planted the seeds later than the chives so they're not quite up yet. Hopefully I can manage to keep these all alive. :) I either overwater or underwater but never water just right.
One morning I was sitting out on the deck enjoying a cup of coffee while Easton was taking his morning nap. I looked over at my lilly and WOW! It looked so beautiful aainst the bright blue sky I just had to grab my camera.

I just divided these lillies a few weeks ago and was praying I didn't hurt them in the process. I'd say they're adjusting well, wouldn't you?

You also LOVE your wading pool. I don't think we've ever spent a better $8 either. We are in it nearly every day and you have so much fun! Last night you splashed mama and daddy both! You love to get in there lay back while mama holds your head up out of the water and just splash and kick and laugh.
One of these days we are going to have to get out the video camera and tape you having fun in your pool. You sure do get mad though when "swimming" time is over. I think you'd be content to stay out there all day if we'd let you.
You've started making funny faces just to entertain us. You love to scrunch up your nose and mouth and sniff your nose and watch us laugh at you. Luckily I grabbed my camera for the show you were putting on!

What a ham!
You will turn 8 months old next week. Mama may be a little busy at that time so your 8 month letter is coming early. Your Nanny and Pawpaw are coming to visit (YAY!) and I'm glad they'll be here to see what a fun little guy you are. We can't wait to see them and I'm sure you'll be spoiled rotten while they're here. But that's OK. That's what Nanny and Pawpaw (and all your other grandparents and greats) are for, right?
I love you, my little monkey!
Love,
Mama

OK. I just spent an HOUR entering tons of contests and giveaways online. I picked up my July issue of Parents magazine and found this website listed in it. I LOVE entering contests but rarely ever win but I thought I'd give some a try. (Jenni, can you pass some of your good luck my way?)

Easton and I played in the pool for a long time today. Now he's squeaky clean and all tuckered out so it's naptime for him. J's out of town tonight on business and will be back tomorrow. While he's gone I have a hot date w/a frozen pizza, a glass of chardonnay, Steel Magnolias and a box of Kleenex. Should be fun!

I LOVE this picture! My little "Happy Jack" posing for yet another photo session with mom. He's a good sport.
P.S. All you OSU fans out there...see the OU hat? That's because we don't have an OSU one that will fit him and I make him wear a hat every time he goes outside (unless we're in the pool). Hint, hint!
I almost didn't post these pictures of me and E playing in his new wading pool. YUCK! Me in a bathing suit?! But then I decided "Oh well. This IS what I look like after all." So here they are. Be nice. It takes a lot of guts to post pictures of my white, un-exercised self. But it's good motivation. It inspired me to walk/jog 2 miles (in my living room) today while Easton was taking his morning nap. :)

We had such a fun time in the new pool! Jason was taking pictures and watching us play. I think I may even be using "Easton's" pool when he's taking a nap...sure would be nice to cool my feet while I'm reading a book on the deck in the afternoon! But shhh...don't tell Easton. He was so mad when we finally got out of the pool. His feet were all waterlogged and prune-y so I knew we'd been in there quite a while. But he LOVES it! I think we'll make this something we do several times a week...maybe even every day. Plus I can take the Baby Magic out there and give him a bath at the same time and clean his toys too. It's a win/win situation.
Roses after the rain...
I'm so proud of my roses! They're doing beautifully and I'm so surprised I haven't managed to kill them yet. My brown thumb has accidentally killed many, MANY things in our garden but not these.

No way! I think I might have figured out what was wrong with my blog template all by myself! Don't ask me how I did it. I just copied and pasted parts of my saved template into blogger and crossed my fingers it would work and it looks like it did! Woohoo! Hello, lovely pink and black layout! I've missed you! :) How weird...some of the comments are here and some are missing. Very strange. But so glad to have my devil-girl back.
I just typed in "seeds by mail" in google to look for other seed companies I didn't know about. I've been to www.burpee.com and www.parkseed.com and just wondered if there were any other companies I hadn't heard of. Imagine my surprise when one of the search results came up with "Marijuana seeds by mail". Um...no thanks! Not into that kind of gardening thank you!

Just wondering what to do. I'm not really stressing out over it but wanted to know what yout think. Thanks!

What a great day yesterday! Easton and I had fun playing in the little wading pool/washtub thing in the late morning. It was sunny and a beautiful not-too-hot kind of day. I filled up the tub and slathered the sunscreen on us both. I stripped him down to just his diaper and plopped him and his bath toys into the tub. He had so much fun! You should have seen him splashing and laughing in the cool water. It was so cute!

I'm so glad we got to go outside and play before the big storm rolled in. I hadn't seen the weather so I just assumed it would be another quick-moving shower like we've been having lately. Nope! This one took me by surprise! It clouded up quickly and the rain started coming down in buckets. In the middle of the downpour, I heard the chairs blowing around on the deck so I quickly put on a rain jacket and went outside to rescue the chairs and take my flower/herb pots down from the rail of the deck. Well, I shouldn't have even bothered with the jacket because the rain was coming down so hard and the wind was blowing so fast it looked like it was raining sideways! I rescued the chairs, moved all eight (8!) of my pots down onto the deck and got inside as quickly as I could. Once inside, I had so much water on my glasses that I couldn't see, my clothes were soaked and the chairs and I were dripping water all over the carpet. I got the chairs into the garage, myself into dry clothes and mopped up the water on the carpet as best as I could.
All of that and the storm blew by in less than 15 minutes! We did have some very high winds and we lost one shingle. Could have been much worse though. I saw neighbors on the roof after the storm passed nailing down many more than one new shingle. Easton did well through the storm. It was his nap time and I don't like him being in his room by that big window when it's storming. I'm probably being way too cautious here but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I put Easton down for a nap on a quilt in the living room and he and I watched a movie and waited for the storm to pass. Well, I watched the movie while he rolled around and inspected every inch of the carpet. I don't know why I even bothered with putting a quilt down because he is at the age now where he is rolling and scooting everywhere!
I did 5 loads of laundry and watched the movie 27 Dresses. I'm glad I went ahead and watched it while Jason was at work because I loved it but he surely would have been bored with such a "girly movie". I love Kathereine Heigl and she was so cute in this movie!
After Jason got home from work, I made a pot of baked potato soup. We fed Easton and put him to bed and it was time for our weekly "date night". Date night at our house usually is just us watching a movie or playing cards but it is nice to have something to look forward to during the week. We watched National Treasure: Book of Secrets. It was pretty good but I liked the first one much better.
Today I'm cleaning the kitchen, mopping the floors and maybe cleaning the bathrooms. Then I'm rewarding myself by watching Atonement. We're finally getting our money's worth out of Netflix.

I don't know what it is about me lately but I have absolutely NO DRIVE! It is 4pm and I have not done one thing. Well, OK I have fed Easton 3 times and changed him and played with him and that is exactly what I need to be doing mostly but the boy is down for his 3rd nap of the day and I have not done one blessed thing except watch tv and read my book. I am supposed to go scrapbook with a friend tonight and I have to pack all my scrap stuff and pack Easton's diaper bag, do the dishes so I don't have to come home to a messy kitchen, fold 3 loads of laundry and still leave by 5. Not gonna happen.
We DID stay up late working outside last night planting flowers and moving out our pavers until about 10pm but still. I act like I'm on a permanent vacation some days and then I feel totally guilty and lazy because I didn't get anything done. Guess I probably just need to go back to making my schedule for the week and stick to it. That seems to help and I feel good about getting things done and not so guilty about slacking off if all the things are done on my list.
