Home sick...AGAIN! I am so tired of being sick! At this rate I'm going to slowly use up all my vacation days by being sick and not be able to come home in July for my birthday. :( I'm pretty sure I have strep throat. My tonsils are huge and nasty looking. Man, I just can't catch a break. But I am sure catching a lot of other fun stuff at work! I think if they tell you up front that in your first year of teaching that you will be sick more than you have ever been in your life, then they should give you double the sick/vacation time to compensate for it. Somehow I don't think my boss would like that idea too much but it sounds fabulous to me! Dr's appt in about an hour and a half to have that lovely strep culture done. Gross! I hate that part! Pregnant women feel like throwing up far too much as it is to have someone sticking that swab in there too! YUCK!

Update: Well, it's not strep. Just viral tonsillitis. I asked my family dr if I was being overly cautious by calling in sick and going to see him today and he said no. He said if he would have bet money after looking in my mouth on whether or not I had strep, he would have bet I had strep and he would have been wrong. Good to hear he doesn't think I'm being a hypochondriac. :)

Overheard this past week:

"The colors of the rainbow are:
Red, Orange, Yellow, Blue, In-diego and Violet."

And instead of singing the correct words to the tune "Looby Loo" someone sings
"Looby loo looby loo. Looby loo looby lie." Lady, if you don't know the words...don't sing the song! And especially don't teach it to our students that way over and over and over again!

***Don't know what song I'm talking about? The words are actually "Here we go looby loo, here we go looby lie, here we go looby loo all on a Saturday night." What the heck does the song mean? I have no idea but it's fun to sing with the kids.

Computer problems strike again! I don't know what was up with our computer but I'm glad to be able to blog again. Not that I've done anything too exciting lately. My life has just been a repeat of this: work, come home, eat dinner, sit on the couch, go to bed early because I'm still just so TIRED! Even that is gradually getting better though. Now I'm able to stay up until 9 or so instead of going to bed at 7:30. :)

I bought some maternity clothes this past weekend. Kohl's was having a great sale and I bought several pairs of pants and capris for $6-10 a piece. Then I went to work on Monday and the mom of one of the kids in my class brought me in 3 huge bags of maternity clothes she was going to sell in a yard sale. She said she'd rather give them to me and see me get some good out of them than mess with selling them and probably not even sell 1/2 of them. I was amazed! There were over 70 things in those 3 bags of clothes! Add that to the few things I bought and some clothes that a coworker let me borrow and suddenly I have more maternity clothes than I do regular-sized clothes!

Gotta cut this short and get to work. Let's hope my computer stays acting normal!

Happy Easter! Today, J helped me make Easter dinner. We had baked ham, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans, glazed carrots and dinner rolls.

Last night, we went to poker night and J did pretty well. I did ok too, but didn't come home with any $. J came in 2nd place both games and brought home an extra $60, which was nice.

Tonight, we're watching Napoleon Dynamite and hanging out on the couch. Pretty exciting stuff, huh?

Aaahhhh! Yay for long weekends! I've been sleeping a lot and cleaning a little. Mostly J has cleaned around me while I slept. Thank you, honey!
I've been feeling better lately. The morning sickness is gone (mostly) and I'm almost over the cold. Now I'm just really, really tired all the time. I'll take that over morning sickness any day!

Last night, we played "Shout About Country Music" on our dvd player and it was really fun! Of course, J says I think that because I kicked his butt 73 to zip. But it was really a fun game. I think it was well worth the $5 we paid for it on clearance at Walmart.

Tonight is poker night. I'm not sure if I'll go or not. I'd like to play but I'm not sure I want to be around the smoke. I think I'll go and if there are a lot of smokers I may decide to leave early. But I definitely want to play one game. It's pretty fun!

I made snickerdoodles to take tonight. I haven't made them in a while and I'd forgotten how much I love them! I also made some tortilla pinwheels too. They're easy to eat with one hand and pretty yummy too. Here's hoping I do well at poker. Baby needs a new pair of shoes.

Actually, baby needs a lot of things. Can you believe I haven't bought a single thing for the baby yet? I'm afraid that once I buy one thing then I'll just open the floodgates and buy, buy, buy. There's plenty of time for that and it will be a whole lot more fun when we know if we're having a boy or a girl. Yes, we are going to find out. I couldn't stand the suspense!

***I don't know why this post didn't show up here when I originally wrote it. But here it is finally.***

This post is going to be short and sweet because any minute I may just fall asleep. I am so tired! Going to bed at 2:15 because you've been up coughing all night will do that to you. Anyway, I'm happy to say I had an uneventful first prenatal check up today. The dr said everything looks right on target for me to be about 9 weeks (which is what I figured) and due Nov. 3rd. He also said at the next visit we will get to hear the heartbeat. That will be so exciting! :) J went with me today and I'm happy he did, even though there wasn't much excitement at today's appt.
Gotta cut this short. I'm getting sleepier and my typing is getting sloppier. Even just this short little post has taken me 3 times as long as it normally does because I can't seem to get my fingers to do what I want them to. Goodnight!

Now I'm reading Baby Signs: How to Talk with Your Baby Before Your Baby Can Talk and also Baby Minds: Brain-Building Games Your Baby Will Love by Linda Acredolo and Susan Goodwyn. I am fascinated with these two books.

I had heard of the idea of using sign language with babies before, but decided I'd better get to reading now so I could decide if it was something worthwhile to pursue or not. So I bought the books (used and very cheap), did some research and was amazed at the huge difference in the amount of spoken words a child has and the amount of signs they can use. One blog I read regularly is from a mom who uses baby sign with her daughter. Her little girl uses about 40 words but knows (and uses) the signs for 100. Imagine being that much more able to communicate with your baby before they are even able to speak! I love that idea.

And some reports I've read have even said that babies who sign are less fussy because they are able to communicate and be understood than babies who do not sign. Now I have no way of knowing if this is just hype to sell baby sign books and programs or not, but it makes sense to me. At work, I see a lot of behavior issues simply because the child lacks the ability to express themselves and make themselves be understood. Can't hurt to try, right? What do you think about that?

Feeling guilty. Not only did I forget to call my sister B on her birthday (yesterday) and not only did I not call my niece on HER birthday (day before yesterday) but I also have not sent B's Christmas and birthday presents to her. I've had them since NOVEMBER! And her kids' presents? Yep. Had them that long too.

Also I have not sent out that picture of me on the front page of the paper. You did not know I was on the front page of the paper, did you? Why? Because I bought 10 copies to mail to people I know and promptly put them on my kitchen counter where they've sat for the past MONTH! Yes, I was on the cover of the Winchester Star Newspaper on March 1st. It was the first nice weather of the year and my co-teacher and I took the kids for a walk outside and a reporter thought we'd make a good front page picture.
So, yes I will get off my butt and send out these 10 pictures finally. Some time.

And finally, take a look at the time stamp of this post. What am I doing awake at this insane hour? Thanks to my now incredibly small bladder, I woke up to pee at 1am and now have been awake ever since. Does this somehow prepare you for getting no sleep once the baby gets here? I doubt it. But whatever the reason, it really kindof ticks me off. I do love my sleep. Guess I'd better kiss that notion goodbye.
