When my friend Mandy asked about the 2nd verse to You Are My Sunshine, I Googled it (cue Isla Fisher: "Yes, I Googled.") to make sure I was getting it exactly right. Boy, did I learn a lot about a song I thought I knew!
The first verse:
The other night dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms
When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I hung my head and I cried.
The familiar part of the song (the chorus):
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away
Verse 2:
I'll always love you and make you happy,
If you will only say the same.
But if you leave me to love another,
You'll regret it all some day
Repeat chorus
Verse 3:
You told me once, dear, you really loved me
and no one else could come between.
But now you've left me and love another
You have shattered all my dreams
Chorus

Isn't that sad?! And apparently this song also carries quite a bit of controversy. Go to Rosemont Records to read an article called "The Theft of an American Classic".
Easton always asks me to sing "cried". He loves that verse for some reason. I love the sweet and happy sounding chorus but the sad part is his favorite.

Easton and I had fun today listening to some good music around the house.
We listened to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix. They were doing a telethon on one of the local channels and playing concerts of all three of these artists. We had a good time dancing around like crazy (me) to great music. Oddly enough I learned I dance like Bob Marley although mine has much to do with poor dancing skills and too much coffee and his I'm sure has something to do w/one illegal substance or another. Easton's apparently got good taste in music. His favorite songs were SRV's Crossroads, Marley's Jammin' and Voodoo Child by Hendrix.
Here's a video of one of Easton's picks.

Here's what I'm listening to today.
Cross Canadian Ragweed - Soul Gravy
Jason and I were at the Tumbleweed to see Ragweed the night they had their CD launch party/concert for this album. It was a crazy night and SO much fun! I snagged a poster from the wall of the 'Weed and had the guys sign it. It's hanging on the wall of our office. Way cool album. It's hard to pick favorites when it comes to Ragweed but this one has got to be one of the tops for me. I really love Number, Wanna Rock & Roll and Alabama from this CD.
Josh Turner - Your Man
Who doesn't love Josh Turner's deep voice? I love Would You Go With Me, No Rush and Your Man. Wish I had his new album. I LOVE Firecracker. I sing it to Easton a lot. Not exactly lullaby stuff but it is fun.
Phil Vassar - Greatest Hits
Until I bought this CD I had no idea Phil Vassar was such a talented and prolific songwriter. I love his versions of his songs better than the radio versions. Favorites on this one are...well, all of them. It is a greatest hits album for a reason. :)
Trace Adkins - Dreamin' Out Loud
I love Trace Adkins for the same reasons I love Josh Turner. There's just something about his voice. I'm not at all a fan of the Honky-tonk Badonkadonk side of Trace but this cd is great. My favorites are I Left Something Turned on at Home, This Ain't No Thinkin' Thing, 634-5789 and If I Fall.
Cross Canadian Ragweed - Mission California
Jason came home from Walmart one day not long ago and surprised me with this CD. We didn't even know Ragweed had released a new album. It stinks to be so far away from their favorite places to play! We have lucked out and seen them around here a few times but they don't get out this way as often as I'd like. Anyway, about the songs. I like In Oklahoma (for obvious reasons), Smoke Another and Jenny. I'd have to say this is my least favorite Ragweed CD but it's still a good one. Maybe because I'm not as familiar with it as I am the rest? Nah. I just don't care for the songs as much. It's a much more serious album than most of the rest. Good for them. Way to do something new. But I much prefer the rowdier, rockin' sounds of Soul Gravy.
See? I don't ALWAYS listen to kid's music. :)

OK, I really have to get off the computer and get something done today. (Other than blogging, ordering pictures for people and balancing the checkbook). But I wanted to take a second to tell you just how ridiculous I've become lately. I have a GREAT selection of kids' music Cd's and Easton and I listen to music a large portion of the day. And sometimes those songs just WILL. NOT. LEAVE. MY. BRAIN! So now I'm getting ready to do the dishes and what am I listening to? All 3 of my Sesame Street Cd's. Easton is asleep so it's not like I'm playing it for him. What a nerd!
It's not QUITE as bad as it sounds. I'm skipping over the songs sung by the Sesame Street Characters. No "La la la la Elmo's World" for me. The songs I'm listening to are sung by people like Aerosmith and Johnny Cash but still...it's kid's music. And it's really funny when I share this ridiculousness with Jason. The other night we were both singing "Oh Jelly can you come home Can you come home, Jelly can you come?" (the chorus from James Taylor's Jelly Man Kelly). But shh! Don't tell him I told you. He'd deny it for sure!
Here it is so you can sing it for days too. It is VERY silly. Gotta love that tuba. Hehe! I also love the way the kids yell out the verse loudly and off-key as only the cutest can do. Too funny! And wow! It's James Taylor with hair.

And so that I can hopefully live down the fact that I listen to Sesame Street CD's, let me leave you with a little grownup music. Couldn't get this one to show up. I think Ragweed asked YouTube to not allow people to embed this video because it says embed feature is disabled. Sorry! I tried. Click the link to see the video
