I've been singing to my babies since before they were born. What? You say you've never heard me sing? Yeah. There's a good reason for that. I do alright I guess but I think I'm probably the only one who thinks so. :) But for my babies, I'll sing anytime, anywhere, any song. Lately Easton has been saying "Mama sing." Well, OK little man. So I sing. And usually he just stares at me with those gorgeous big blue eyes and his little dimpled grin. He waits patiently for me to finish and then says "Sing 'gin". And I do. Over and over and over. Over the Rainbow, You are My Sunshine, Twinkle Twinkle, Los Pollitos, Old McDonald and many more.

Yesterday we were running errands. It was a gorgeous day. The sun was shining, the sky was blindingly blue and I just felt like singin'. I sang You Are My Sunshine. First the familiar first verse and then the sad but beautiful second verse, which is Easton's favorite. And for the first time, from the back seat...quietly, beautifully, I heard my little boy singin' right along with me.

It was so wonderful and sweet and unexpected that as soon as I finished the song I started praying right out loud:
"Lord, thank You for this beautiful day! Thank You for Easton and Audrey and Daddy's good job and for Easton's beautiful singing voice. Thank You that we have plenty of food to eat and a nice house to live in. Please help us to be thankful to you even on the gloomy days, but oh, Father, thank You for this beautiful day today!"

I had a smile on my face the rest of the day.

Thank you, Katy. I am. Really. Truly. Happy. And boy, oh boy, do I appreciate feeling this way now because I didn't for a while. A very long, dark, gloomy, ugly time. I don't even like to reread this blog because I was just so unhappy for such a long time but didn't even really realize it.

I'm thinking of starting a new blog. Start over fresh with a clean slate and a blank canvas. Might even change from Crafty Lil Devil to something else. Not sure yet but I've been thinking of it for quite a while. I might still incorporate my trademark Crafty Lil Devil somehow but my life is so much different now. I think it's time for a change. Maybe. We'll see. Any suggestions?

That is so, so sweet!! I used to sing to my kids when they were little, but now not so much. Only my 4 and 6 yo's want me to sing and not that often.

When I was growing up, my mom would play the piano and my sisters and I would gather round her and sing. Those memories are precious to me because my mom died when I was 21, so it is only memories from childhood and teenage years that I really have of her.

Keep singing and enjoy those precious moments!!

So sweet:) And I'm glad you are happy also, you deserve it! What is the second verse to the song? I have sang that song to my babies since they were born and never knew it had a second verse. Such a cute picture of Easton:)

Thank you, Amanda. What beautiful, precious memories you and your sister share of that special time with your mom. I try to remind myself that these days fly by way too quickly and to take time at least once a day to really be present. In the moment. Soaking it all up. But it sure is hard sometimes!

Thank you, Mandy. I'm writing a post about that verse of You Are My Sunshine. I promised myself I have to finish my homework before I can finish that post but check back here very soon. Tonight or tomorrow, I hope!

How precious!

I sang to each of my kids while I was pregnant with them their own song. My oldest's was You Are My Sunshine. She's about to turn nine, but that song is still special to us both.

Keep singin'!

Stopping by from Just For the Joy of It.

OH AMY! You moved me to tears. That touched my heart SO MUCH!

I know exactly what you mean... I love to sing, anytime, all the time, whenever possible. And my little man (who barely has any words yet), can carry a tune like a champ! He just doesn't use any words! And so many times, hearing his voice and the delight he takes in a new day just puts JOY in this mama's heart. And I felt it again when I read your post!

AWESOME!!

Jamie, I love that each of your children has their own special song. That's a great way to make each of them feel special.

Sharon,
Thank you! Isn't it wonderful to hear your babies singing just because they can? I'm so glad I finally got to participate in your Just for the JOY posts!

Thank you, Kat. Yes, this is one of those memories that will definitely make me smile whenever I think of it. And one I'll need to remember on those days (like today) when my son is acting decidedly TWO. I wouldn't say terrible two because that's a little harsh but definitely just TWO. Very, VERY TWO. Ha ha

I LOVE IT!!! I've always sang to my babies in utero as well. You are such a sweet momma!! I wish sooo much that we all loved a little closer. What a blessing it is to see and appreciate the beauty that God gives on those sunshinny days!! What a great example it is to thank God for those times out loud to teach our children to do the same!! Here's a song for ya! "I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart!"
